Text messages for deaf, hearing-impaired and speech-impaired persons
15 February 2015
Deaf, hearing-impaired and speech-impaired persons sometimes have trouble calling emergency services. Therefore, the Federal Public Services Public Health and Home Affairs and the integrated police have made sure that emergency centres can also be reached by SMS. This service is free and reserved for deaf, hearing-impaired and speech-impaired persons. These people can now use specific numbers, which can be requested by e-mail or SMS, and no longer have to dial the traditional emergency numbers 112, 100 and 101.
