5 March 2015

On 5 March 2015, Jan Jambon, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Security and Home Affairs, and Koen Geens, the Minister of Justice, visited the Special Units of the Federal Police (DSU), which carried out the antiterrorist operations in Verviers and elsewhere in the country in mid-January.

During this visit, the Special Units gave a demonstration of their work, allowing Jan Jambon to see how effective it is. The minister was impressed with the calm and self-control that these police officers show in extremely dangerous situations.

On 23 April, the Minister of Home Affairs paid another visit to the Special Units, this time accompanied by Prime Minister Charles Michel, to inform them of the decision taken by the budgetary conclave held at the end of March, i.e. the recruitment of another fifty police officers and the release of a budget of 15 million EUR, of which 12.5 million for the purchase of new equipment and 2.5 million for the renovation of the Special Units buildings.
