Drug controls for Tomorrowland
18 July 2015
At the request of the police zone Rupel, the Antwerp Railway Police (SPC) have organised an international control operation at the Antwerp Central railway station. The operation was directed against potential drug traffickers coming from the Netherlands by train. Because of the zero-tolerance policy with regard to drugs at the festival, measures were taken to stop the supply of drugs.
The operation extended over four days and SPC Antwerp received support from colleagues from Hasselt, Leuven and Ghent. But it was not enough yet. International cooperation was called upon. About fifteen staff members from the Landen units (KLPD Netherlands), together with a drug dog handler, provided support in Antwerp during those four days. The result? Two dealers were found carrying 35 doses of XTC powder and 50 XTC pills respectively. They had to appear before the investigating judge and were arrested. A minor was found carrying drugs. Four separate persons were booked for possession of drugs as the 10-gram limit was exceeded.
