On the occasion of the National Day, the Integrated Police organised their 14th police village at the Place Poelaert in Brussels. A new concept was developed for this occasion: ‘Old meets new’!

Visitors were welcomed by Alfred Algoet, a ‘gendarme’ who spied on the occupying Germans on behalf of the Belgian army during the First World War. He took the visitors on a journey through the village and back in time so they could discover the history of the police over the last century in four areas: techniques, uniforms, vehicles and training. In the tent of the future, adults and/or children were invited to draw their vision of the police for the years and decades to come.

At the Place des Palais, a detachment on foot consisting of trainees from various police schools and the National Police Academy paraded, followed by a motorised column of vehicles from the Federal and Local Police.
