S@RaM for security on the metro and train network
1 October 2015
On Thursday 1 October 2015, the Federal Railway Police deployed during a check in Brussels as much as an additional 56 police officers, on top of the regular teams, reinforced by two sections of the Brussels Intervention Corps. This action was held in the framework of the FIPA action (Full Integrated Police Action), a regularly organised action coordinated by the Brussels Coordination and Support Directorate. For each Brussels police zone, the priority of this FIPA action was put on security in public transport in the 19 Brussels municipalities (metro, tram, bus, railways).
The Federal Railway Police forces were reinforced by numerous partners who, each in their field, offered an added value to this ‘Safety at railway and metro’ check (S@RaM). Simultaneous static actions were organised by the Brussels Public Transport Company in the metro network. Also teams of Securail and the Belgian National Railway Company (ticket control) reinforced the police operation in the Brussels South Station, where also a sniffer dog checked all passengers.
The mobile police force in the metro stations and underground tunnels was assisted by four magistrates of the Office of the Public Prosecutor in Brussels, who followed the control teams in the metro stations and tunnels.
By means of such S@RaM actions, the Federal Police and its partners show the passengers that they massively focus on security in public transport.
