The Federal Judicial Police (FJP) of East Flanders took part in 1 Day Without, the National Day of Action against Domestic Burglary. An information session for victims of housebreaking was organised. Inhabitants of East Flanders who had recently received a visit from burglars were invited to the FJP laboratory in Ghent. There, they could learn how the traces found and collected in their homes are processed.

Victims of a burglary do not only have a great feeling of insecurity, but also many questions: Have the thieves been caught? Have the stolen objects already been found? Were some traces discovered at least? The aim of FJP East Flanders was to answer all those questions by organising this information session, initiated by Chief Superintendent Patrick Willocx: ‘We want to show the public how we process those traces. This is what we do with the fingerprint found on your kitchen cupboard. This is how we compare the footprint taken from your terrace. And these are the possibilities when we find a Coca-Cola can that was opened by the burglar. We also underline the importance of the preservation of traces.’
