16 November 2015

The Federal Police organised their fourth ‘flash marathon’ in close cooperation with the Local Police. Between Monday 16 November 2015 6 a.m. and Tuesday 17 November 2015 6 a.m., across Belgium drivers were subjected to speed checks. The objective of this awareness-raising campaign was to increase road safety and reduce the number of road victims. In total, 618 police officers took part in the ‘flash marathon’: 184 of the Federal Highway Police and 434 from 131 Local Police Zones. SPECS cameras, fixed and mobile speed cameras were used.

A third of the fatal accidents on our roads are caused by excessive and/or inappropriate speed. Hence, road safety is and remains a priority for the Integrated Police. The police hope that drivers will respect speed limits within and outside the scope of this campaign and that the number of speeding fines can be reduced to a minimum.

  • 718 places where checks were organised;
