When a number plate registration by a Dutch ANPR camera in the border region led to a ‘hit’, a massive police force was deployed. Information from the Netherlands pointed to the presence of a terrorist suspect aboard a vehicle that was the subject of a Schengen alert. After being chased by the police, the driver was forced to stop on the Antwerp Ring near the Sportpaleis. Several specialised police teams arrived. The Ring and the secondary roads were cleared of traffic. This had a great impact on traffic fluidity. Finally, the information about the terrorist suspect was a false alarm. Nevertheless, this operation illustrates the smooth cooperation between local and federal (intervention) teams.
